Genre Research - Horror 

Horror is designed to bring out fear, emotions and disgust in the audience. 
The genre also overlaps with many other genre’s such as fantasy, science fiction and thriller.



  • Gothic
  • Psychological
  • Supernatural
  • Slasher
  • Suspense
  • Thriller
  • Teen terror
  • Satanic
 There are many themes in horror such as; Revenge, haunting, serial killers, religion and ghosts. 
Typical conventions of horror are; white, red, black colours, isolated or abandoned locations such as a church, farm or abandoned house. These conventions gets the genres mood across to the audience because it shows them the possibilities that can happen within this scene. For example; The abandoned house shows that anyone could be there, and anything could happen. This is horror as it is bring out the fear in the audiences minds. Why do people watch horror? I think people watch horror because it withdraws fear, suspense and imagination to the the viewers minds. Horror has the potential to create a vast variety of reactions.
